CE ISO 9001 Certified AHU Air Handling Unit for Electronics Industry Cleanroom Project

Product Overview

The Clean Room Air Handling Unit (AHU) is designed to condition and supply air for controlled environments where temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and airflow must be carefully managed. It can be configured for pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical device production, electronics manufacturing, laboratories, and other cleanroom applications.

The AHU can incorporate cooling and heating sections, pre-filtration, fine filtration, HEPA filtration, humidification or dehumidification, fans, dampers, sensors, and control systems according to the project requirements. The unit can be integrated with chilled-water systems, DX cooling systems, cleanroom air distribution networks, and building management systems (BMS).

The final AHU configuration should be selected according to the required airflow, cooling and heating load, filtration level, temperature and humidity conditions, cleanroom classification, operating schedule, and installation environment.

HEPA filter location depends on the cleanroom HVAC design. In some systems, final HEPA filtration is installed at the terminal FFU or ceiling level rather than directly inside the AHU

Temperature & Humidity Control

The AHU can be configured to support temperature and humidity control through cooling coils, heating sections, humidification and dehumidification functions. Control parameters are selected according to the cleanroom process, product requirements, outdoor conditions and HVAC design.

• Supply air temperature
• Return air temperature
• Relative humidity
• Cooling coil
• Heating coil
• Humidifier
• Dehumidification
• Sensors
• PLC/HMI

HVAC System Integration

The Clean Room AHU can be integrated with:

• Chilled Water Chiller
• Chilled Water Pumps
• Cooling Towers, where applicable
• Ductwork
• HEPA Filters
• FFUs
• Cleanroom Terminal Units
• Differential Pressure Monitoring
• Temperature & Humidity Sensors
• BMS

The AHU primarily conditions and supplies air, while terminal filtration and airflow distribution are determined by the overall cleanroom HVAC design.

Engineering & Selection Process

Engineering & Selection Process

Products Description

• Mixing Section

  • Details: Fresh air (OA) and return air (RA) dampers are typically interlinked and controlled to maintain a constant total airflow (in constant volume systems). The damper actuators can be electric, pneumatic, or electronic, receiving signals from the Building Management System (BMS).

  • Key Parameter: Minimum outside air ratio (typically 15-30%, modulated based on demand control ventilation or codes).

• Filtration Section

  • Filter Grades (EN/ISO Standards):

    • G3/G4 (Pre-filters): ~80-90% efficiency on ≥5µm particles. Protects equipment.

    • F5-F9 (Medium-efficiency): 40-95% on ≥1µm particles. Standard for commercial IAQ.

    • H10-H14 (HEPA/Sub-HEPA): >95% on ≥0.3µm particles. For cleanrooms, ORs, labs.

  • Differential Pressure Gauge/Switch: Monitors pressure drop across the filter bank. Alerts when the filter is loaded and needs replacement—critical for preventive maintenance.

• Coil Section

  • Construction & Materials:

    • Tube & Fin: Copper tubes with mechanically expanded aluminum fins. Often coated with a hydrophilic (water-loving) film to improve condensate drainage and inhibit microbial growth.

    • Rows/Circuits: Cooling coils are typically 4-8 rows deep. More rows increase dehumidification capacity. Internal circuits (for water or refrigerant) ensure even distribution and heat transfer.

    • Drip Pan: Located below the cooling coil. Must be sloped, insulated, and equipped with a proper P-trap to ensure condensate drainage and prevent air leakage and microbial contamination.

• Humidification Section

  • Type Details:

    • Steam Humidification (Isothermal): Most common. Uses clean, dry steam from a central boiler or self-contained generator, injected via a steam dispersion manifold. Precise and hygienic.

    • Adiabatic Humidification: Uses high-pressure water nozzles or ultrasonic atomizers. Cools the air as water evaporates (adiabatic process).

• Fan Section

  • Fan Types:

    • Forward-Curved Centrifugal Fans: Lower pressure, higher volume. Common in smaller units.

    • Backward-Inclined/Airfoil Centrifugal Fans: Higher efficiency, non-overloading power curve, quieter operation. Preferred for large, efficient AHUs.

  • Drive Arrangement: Belt-driven (adjustable, requires maintenance) or direct-driven (higher efficiency, lower maintenance).

  • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD): Standard on modern AHUs. Modulates fan speed based on duct static pressure or temperature reset strategies for significant energy savings in part-load conditions.

Engineering Process

• Requirement Analysis
Review airflow, cooling/heating load, filtration and cleanroom requirements.
• AHU Configuration
